“Hi, my name is Luke Van Den Heuvel. I’ve been a member of City Fitness since 2019. Since the age of 5, I’ve been involved in the waterskiing scene. When I turned 8, I found a love for Barefoot Waterskiing and started competing at the age of 12.
In 2003, as a junior coming up through the ranks, I was selected to ski for Australia in the Asian Austral Asian championship in New Zealand. That event I broke x2 Australian Records and qualified to ski in the Open Pro Men’s Division (Those records still stand to this day). I won my first Australian Open National title in Men’s 1 Division in 2005 and went on to ski many national championships placing in multiple events.
After a l3 year break from the sport, I rediscovered the spark and passion and decided to come back better, faster, and stronger than ever. So, in early 2019, I decided to push hard and dedicate myself on and off the water for selection in the Australia Open Pro Barefoot Team to compete in the 2020 World Championships. With the help, guidance, and energetic drive I got from City Fitness, I achieved my dream and was selected to represent the green and gold.
I’m now currently back training hard for selection again for the 2022 World Masters Championships which are being held in Austin, Texas in September.
Without the group fitness and strength classes that Steve and his team provides, I would not be where I am today physically. City Fitness is fantastic! I’m healthier and stronger and I’ve made friends as well.”
